Episode

Episode is a semi-biographical novel about the polymath filmmaker Arieh-Leopold Friedman-Lahola.

Ernst Haas is considered to be one of the pioneers of small-format color photography. He is less well-known for his early black & white work.

This book cover is reminiscent of the “frame within frame” trope, often seen on television news programs, where a phone video is inset into a larger, blurred version of the same image or video. In this case, the “framing” image is in focus, but visually backgrounded by a large, obscuring halftone dot pattern. Also notice the decorative greenish yellow vertical dashes on the cover, presumably meant to reference the sprocket holes of 35mm film.
