Soldiers of Light

When I first came across this book, I was surprised to see the cover photograph credited to Harry Gruyeart. First, Gruyeart photographs almost exclusively in color and, second, despite his sense of color sometimes verging on the otherworldly, his photos are documentary, rooted in concrete reality. Ultimately, I discovered that the source image for this cover was originally in color, and the anonymous designer made the choice to desaturate the original, and break it up into 2 or 3 sections – which is why I’m including the cover spread as an alternative view.
